When designing the aesthetic enhancements for the Diverging Diamond Interchange project at the I-40 Corridor in the Elk City, OK., CDR’s goal was to visually reflect unique aspects of the city’s natural beauty and commercial history. This design reflects the interests of the community members and project stakeholders as expressed during CDR’s initial community outreach meetings, which were to incorporate themes of elk, stone, oil, gas, and agriculture into the design of the interchange. CDR’s aesthetic treatments and concrete enhancements for these bridges affect the parapets, wing walls, slope walls, piers, pier caps, and approaches, as well as new signature signage, which welcomes travelers to Elk City.
