This interactive urban environment is comprised of three components: 1) a 34-foot clock fountain that refers to future time, 2) a 14-foot bronze Armillary Sphere that alludes to ancient time, and 3) FOTERA terrazzo concrete bands and text panels that reflect on the ephemeral nature of time. The custom clock fountain conveys time using roman numerals and vertical and concentric waterspouts that respond to the changing minutes and hours of the day. The celestial bronze sphere incorporates astrological symbols in relief on the outside of the central band; on the interior, Roman numerals reveal the time of day through shadows generated by the sun’s rays. The engraved text panels are interspersed throughout adjacent sidewalks to further unify this urban environment.
